THE FOUNDATION of Christian Heritage School is the
Word of God, the Bible. Constant faithfulness to God’s
inerrant Word is the bedrock on which Christian Heritage School's
future depends. Since Biblical thinking begins with knowing the Bible,
every subject and every activity is approached from the perspective of
God’s Word.
Herbert Schlossburg and Marvin Olasky, in their
book Turning Point: A Christian Worldview Declaration,
write, "Unthoughtful attitudes involving such matters as government,
education, culture, sexual morality, abortion, and so on suggest that
Christians have not learned to make the right connections between piety
and reason, between acknowledging the Lordship of Christ and working
out the implications of God’s Word for all of life."
Christian Heritage School has the unique
opportunity to devote time and energy to the task of teaching young
people to make those connections. By training students to
think and act Biblically, CHS develops men and women of
character, "a renewed and repentant people possessed of a
moral vision, informed by Scripture" (Schlossburg and Olasky).
CHRISTIAN
HERITAGE SCHOOL graduates are poised to serve in churches and
communities around the world as future doctors, teachers, businessmen
and women, missionaries, and in numerous other
occupations.
CHS has proved to be a worthy tool by which young people are
challenged, and respond, to serve God and their fellow man.
Many students have excelled academically. CHS
students consistently score one grade higher than the national norm on
Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT). Challenging
these students to excel are the Godly and capable men and women of the
CHS faculty. These professional servants have invested a
tremendous quantity of time and effort into the lives of the CHS
student body, and they are making a difference.
AS
WE ENTER this new century, and a new millennium as well, we ask
ourselves, "What will the future hold, and will Christian Heritage
School be able to meet its challenges?"
Christian
Heritage School is a builder --- of society, the future and the kingdom
of God. We declare this not out of pride, but from humble recognition
that God is at work in history and in those who belong to His kingdom
are co-laborers with Him.
The
future seems bright with promise as new discoveries and tools for
discovery occur almost daily. However, progress can disguise a poverty
of spirit. We see a generation that is adrift in a moral vacuum. A
recent study of today’s youth found many of them "pampered,
incapable of critical thinking, no sense of honor, no one to look up
to, no one to believe in, just coasting, and finally, not standing for
anything but desperately needing to stand for something."
(Christianity
Today, February 3, 1997)
Reports
such as these bring a sense of urgency to the educational process.
Christian Heritage School is ideally positioned to challenge this
disheartening malaise. We accept this challenge and claim the high
ground of moral integrity and excellence with a deep sense of mission.
An
education at CHS offers parents the alternative they need to prepare
their children to face the issues of this next century. These students
can seize the opportunity to be the leaders and shapers of the future
for God’s kingdom and our culture.
AS OUR STUDENTS
become people with a mission, they must have facilities and
materials. It is imperative that new facilities be completed soon to
accommodate our rapidly increasing enrollment.
Tuition/Income Information
(Top
of Page)
Due to an
ever-increasing demand on funds from our growth, tuition has not
entirely kept up with costs of educating CHS students. CHS typically
funds the income shortfall through fund-raising events and donations
from nuclear and fringe stakeholders. CHS initially set tuition and
fees at a market penetration pricing to attract students for
enrollment. Since opening the doors in 1995, increases in tuition have
been largely initiated to provide raises and incentives, based on a the
cost of living index, to faculty members.
Approximately 71% of
the school's operating budget is applied to instructional costs
(including supplies, equipment, staff development, salaries, and
benefits). Thirteen percent of the school's operating budget is applied
to administration costs, and 1.6% is applied to the care and
maintenance of buildings and site. The remaining 12.2% is applied to
various other expenses including overhead, debt retirement,
scholarships, insurance, marketing, and board expense.
Since beginning in
1995 with 167 students, Christian Heritage School has experienced
significant growth in enrollment averaging nearly 20% each year. There
are approximately 52.6% female students and 47.4% male. The 600+
children currently enrolled in CHS belong to 50 different church and
religious affiliations.
A majority of CHS
students are of Caucasian ethnicity, (87.1%). Approximately 4.3% are
Hispanic, 4.1% are Asian-Pacific Islander, 2.9% are African-American,
and 1.4% are Native American.
Most students speak
English as their first language; however, there are a few who speak a
second language in the home. Approximately 56% of the faculty and staff
have at least one child enrolled at CHS.
